Dear Colleagues and Friends
I would like thank Dr Theresa Pitt for her great work over the last two years and for the previous General Assembly she organized in Cork, last september 2016. We were warmly welcomed with the support of the new University College Cork (UCC) and attended a very interesting worksop on « E-learning Education in Audiology ». Moreover, we had the pleasure of discovering Kinsale, one of the most historic towns on the south west coast of Ireland.
I would like to extend the warmest thanks to Pr Martin Kompis for organizing a great conference in Interlaken, in the heart of the Swiss Alps, the magnificent region of Jungfrau. Most of the fields of Audiology were highlighted, with distinguished international scientists discussing topics such as economic impact, hearing implants, genetics of hearing loss, and many others.
As EFAS Chairperson, I would like to stress the importance of spreading Audiology advances, education and training in all European countries, for the benefit of the patients, both children and adults, with hearing disorders.
On behalf of the board of EFAS, I would like to emphasize our collaboration with all countries. It is our first objective to involve all the professional societies of the individual countries, to support the development of audiology across Europe with audiological conferences, workshops, scholarships and project grants.
I look forward to welcoming all of you, next year to the General Assembly in September 2018 to Montpellier, France, home to one of the oldest medical Universities in Europe.
This year, the new medical Faculty building was unveiled, strengthening the city‘s image as a center for high technology.
Along the coast of the Mediterranean sea (around 6 miles from Montpellier), the Board of Hospital Institut Saint Pierre, in Palavas –Les- Flots, will be honoured to welcome EFAS members at the Cochlear Implant Center and Audiology department.
We will have the opportunity to visit Maguelone Cathedral, Roman Catholic Church of the XI century which was the episcopal seat of the former Bishop Maguelone until 1563.
Besides reporting all the very interesting EFAS Working Groups, we would like to focus this next workshop on the data of new media and changes in training, rehabilitation, education, learning etc. in all European countries.
In 2019, the 14th EFAS Congress will be organized by Pr Jorge Humberto Martins and his team in Lisbon, Portugal. There, we will have the opportunity to discover the colourful city, the historic port and different people and culture on 22 th - 25th May 2019.
At the 2017 General Assembly, Croatia was voted to be the 2021 host and will be the exciting destination for the 15th EFAS Congress.
